Beyond Taste: Affective Self-Report as an Extended Sensory Signal

MP6 was created to explore how sensory information can become more portable, comparable and interoperable.


Its first public tools focus on sensory data: conversion, recording, validation, viewing, timeline playback, comparison and reporting.


But human experience is not only made of taste, aroma, texture, sight and sound.

A sensory event can also carry affective meaning.



Chocolate may feel comforting.A scent may feel threatening or nostalgic.A meal may feel joyful, heavy, intimate, artificial, luxurious or strange.A soundscape may change the way taste is perceived.A product experience may produce trust or unease.


This is why Ajinomatrix is also exploring the relationship between sensory profiles and affective self-report.


Where FEELLLM fits

FEELLLM is a public experimental self-report surface connected to the broader Ajinomatrix / Life-X research ecosystem.

It helps users translate a difficult feeling, situation or affective signal into structured language.

It is not therapy, diagnosis, crisis support or a medical device.

For MP6, the relevance is narrower and more technical:


Can affective and hedonic self-report become part of extended sensory profiles?


Why this matters for sensory data

Traditional sensory evaluation often focuses on attributes such as:

  • sweetness;

  • acidity;

  • bitterness;

  • aroma intensity;

  • mouthfeel;

  • texture;

  • aftertaste;

  • visual appearance.

But experience is richer than attribute scoring alone.


A future sensory data standard may need to represent not only what was perceived, but also:

  • how it unfolded through time;

  • how the person reacted;

  • whether the experience felt pleasant, strange, comforting or excessive;

  • what context influenced the perception;

  • what uncertainty remains in the report.

MP6 already includes the ambition to describe multi-sensory experience across multiple dimensions. FEELLLM explores one adjacent layer: structured affective language.


FEELLLM and MP6 are not the same thing

MP6 is a sensory-data interoperability framework.


FEELLLM is a self-report translation PoC.

They should not be confused.

The connection is experimental: FEELLLM may help future systems describe affective or hedonic response as part of a broader sensory record.


This could matter for:

  • consumer tasting research;

  • product experience studies;

  • food and beverage development;

  • fragrance and environment design;

  • sensory timelines;

  • human-AI interaction;

  • contextual perception modelling.


From sensory score to sensory experience

One of MP6 Studio’s key ideas is that sensory experience changes through time.

A product is not only a static score.

It has:

  • attack;

  • development;

  • body;

  • tail;

  • aftertaste;

  • memory;

  • context.

FEELLLM asks a related question:


Can a person’s emotional or affective response also be translated into structured language without reducing it too aggressively?
